Jerry Bloom -
In Memoriam
In Memoriam
We are saddened to share the news that ensemble member Jerry Bloom passed away on August 8.
Jerry enjoyed a long career in Chicago theater, appearing in productions at Goodman Theatre, Remy Bumppo, Red Twist, Griffin, Body Politic, Bailiwick, City Lit, Golf Mill, Stormfield and National Jewish Theater among others. He was also a prolific voiceover artist, lending his talents to countless radio and television commercials.
Jerry joined The Free Readers Ensemble during the 2006-2007 season after appearing as a guest artist. Some of his most memorable performances were in The Man Who Came to Dinner (Sheridan Whiteside); Born Yesterday (Harry Brock); Barrymore (John Barrymore); On Golden Pond (Norman Thayer); Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (Big Daddy).
Leveraging his behind the scenes talents, Jerry twice directed his own adaptation of classic Spanish drama, a swashbuckling romance titled SWORDPLAY, which we will present this May as our season finale in Jerry's honor.
We are so grateful that we had the opportunity to share the Free Readers stage with Jerry, and that he shared his talent with us.
May his memory be a blessing.
