We are heartbroken to announce that Mercita DeMuynck, a founding member of "The Free Readers Ensemble", passed away on March 26.
Mercita performed as an actress, singer and dancer starting from the age of 3...until she was 93.
Along with her work in television and radio commercials, and numerous stage roles, Mercita directed and acted in live radio shows with the AFTRA/SAG Senior Radio Players at the Chicago Cultural Center. She also toured Illinois as Jane Addams in "The Angel of Halsted Street," a one-woman show.
Mercita performed at the Drury Lane Theater, Goodman Theater and Chicago Dramatists, as well as the Human Race Theatre Co. in Dayton, OH.
We were so grateful to share the stage with her one last time in our October show, "Life is a Cabaret" based on her life and recollections.
Her talent, her spirit, her smile will never leave us, even now that she has taken her final bow. We were beyond grateful to have shared the time, and the stage, with Mercita. She was a true one of a kind.
