In this haunting play, which The Guardian called “Brian Friel's masterpiece,” a healer named Frank Hardy offers the promise of redemption to the sick and the suffering in the forgotten corners of the British Isles.
But his is an unreliable gift, a dangerous calling which brings him into conflict with his angry but still loving wife Grace, and his once-plucky now-tired manager Teddy.
Friel’s play weaves together their stories in lyrical monologues, each delivering conflicting versions of “the fantastic Francis Hardy’s” performances, while slowly revealing a terrible event at the story’s center. A fascinating exploration of truth and superstition, and unconditional love.
